Benny and the Jets win Perseverence Award at State Robotics Competition

The Winnebago Council’s STEM Robotics team “Benny and the Jets” competed March 2nd at the Iowa State FTC Championships at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The four Scouts that participated this year completed their inspections, set up their displays, and had their interviews with the judges on Friday, February 22nd and then competed in their preliminary competition rounds on Saturday the 23rd. Competing against the 48 best robot teams in the state, our team of rookies competed ably and represented the council with humor and determination. After their six preliminary rounds, the team was eliminated after only winning one round. The team was again very popular for both their team name and their friendly spirit as they handed out finger tattoo and sticker mustaches which became their team symbol after they placed on on the robot. They made a lot of friends and highly impressed the judges with their efforts at overcoming many different obstacles to reach this stage. At the awards ceremony completing the day, they were given one of three special judges awards for “Perseverance” and their evaluation was extremely positive to encourage them to build on this experience to return next year.
