The Cotter Road Corn Maze Has Lots of Fun for the Whole Family

We are excited to announce the 2013 Cotter Road Corn Maze, located between Washburn and LaPorte City, is now open for the season. We are open every day (weather permitting) 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Our prices are $5 per person and 5 and under are free. Our address is 10526 Cotter Road, LaPorte City, Iowa.

The Cotter Road Corn Maze is a plot of corn planted north to south and east to west, featuring 60 inch paths which are accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. The corn is the tallest we’ve had since we started doing corn mazes, with some corn growing over 11 feet tall.

The Cotter Road Corn Maze this year is an old fashioned maze and is not in a particular pattern. It’s truly a regular maze with dead ends and twists and turns. There are four things to look for this year in the maze:

  • a turtle
  • a hobby horse
  • a shell
  • and the wooden owl.

Some of our guests this year have enjoyed a variety of ways to use the maze. One way is to time each person with a stopwatch and the one who can go to the end of the maze and back to the beginning the fastest wins. Another way is to go single file through the maze and whenever someone in the group makes a noise or talks, they are sent back to the beginning to see if anyone makes it the entire way and back without a sound. Also, you can give each person one clue to find with no help from the others.

The Cotter Road Corn Maze has activities to enjoy after the maze:

  • See farm animals up close—goats, calves, baby chicks, and the rabbits (this year, we have Footloose (a young rabbit) and his mother Fancy Free.
  • Peacocks, chickens, Royal Palm turkeys, and African guinea fowl are free range on our property.
  • Play in a sandbox filled with whole kernel corn.
  • Challenge others for a cow-chip throwing contest and/or gunny sack races.
  • Play with a miniature barn and farm animals.
  • Visit the garage sale (many Halloween items for sale).
  • Buy farm fresh eggs and/or peacock feathers.
  • Sit back and enjoy the countryside.
  • Pumpkin sales start in September.

The maze will be open through Halloween, October 31, for the season.
