Three boys from Troop 42 and one boy from Troop 158 (both Cedar Falls) had an AWESOME time at Florida Sea Base located in the Florida Keys!
They did a Sea Exploring Adventure where 18 boys and leaders boarded the Jolly II Rover in Key West and set sail for a 6 day, 5 night adventure.
Their highlights included:
- Snorkeling twice a day on beautiful reefs and a 150 year old ship wreck. They swam through angle fish, barracuda, sharks, stingrays, and many other sea life
- They moored at Boca Grand Key and got to swim and go ashore
- They fed sharks at night- about 20 sharks joined the feeding frenzy!
- The boys got to “man the sails” and sail the ship on the days they had enough wind
- They got to fish– they caught mahi mahi and a 150 pound shark!
- 100 Fathom Club- they all swam in the gulf stream in 750 feet deep water in “the bluest water I’ve ever seen!”
- Shore Day- they spent the day exploring Key West
- Walking the plank- The boat they were on had a plank and a rope swing- the boys spent hours swinging and swimming
In the galley at Florida Sea Base, there are Council strips on the walls, and any unit that goes to Florida Sea Base brings a couple of extra of their unit numbers to staple on the walls. The boys got to partake that tradition and were able to add both 42 and 158 to the wall.
