Eight Eagle Scouts form the State of Iowa submitted Applications to the 2014 NSSAR Arthur M. and Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship and Awards Program.
In completing the application, Eagle Scouts rediscover the greatness of America’s founding in the composition of a 500 word patriotic essay. In the completion of a four-generation ancestor chart, many Eagle Scouts also discover their linage to patriots of the American Revolution. Six activity categories detail Scouting, School, Religious, Community, and Awards and are scored to determine a State Winner by 6 Compatriot Judges of the Iowa Society Sons of the American Revolution.
In January 2014, the IASSAR Scholarship Judging Committee examined each of the applicants and presented their choice for the Eagle Scout to represent the IASSAR in the NSSAR competition at their national meeting. Over 900 Eagle Scouts nationwide are competing for $14,000 in Scholarships. HIs application was forwarded to NSSAR National Headquarters for judging against Eagle Scouts representing 40 States.
