Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Cub Scout Pack 4034 had it’s 4th Annual Running of the Cub-apolis 400 @ the Marble Rock community center on Sunday Nov. 10, 2013. The evening started with the flag ceremony.
They had 5 groups (pit crews) of 7 kids race in the Cub-apolis 400. It is good team work fun. The cardboard cars race around the gym 4 times. 1st lap wash windows: Kid has goggles on and they spray them with water and wipe it with a towel. 2nd lap fuel: drink a juice box. 3rd lap: change the tires: shoes and socks off, socks inside out and shoes back on feet; and run last lap. Then the racer gives the car to the next pit crew member. The race lasts until all the kids have raced the car.
The cars this year were themed around service people: Fire truck, Floyd County Conservation, police car, US postal vehicle, and an ambulance. Each Cub Scout den made one of the cars.
Winning pit crew: (far left person unknown), Terran Romer, Joe Koehler, David Miller, Caleb Paulus, Nick Groven, Ryker Hoffman
Race starter: Tyson Dight
The sock contest was next. Cub Scout categories included: longest, character, holiday, most colorful. This year the siblings had their own category.
Sock winners:
Sibling socks: (far left person unknown); Holiday socks: Tyler Marth; Longest socks: Zack Ott; Most Beautiful: Brooks Hoffman; Character socks: Josiah Stokes
The cars were auctioned off for “Toys for Tots”. The money from the auction was presented to the Marine Corps League at the next pack meeting. A fun time for all.
and they’re off!
