Congratulations on beginning your Senior Year in High School! You have shown that you can do your best – both in Scouting and in your educational achievements. As you finish out your High School career, you have many demands on your time and energy. We are honored that you choose to include Scouting in that list.
One of the things we value most about the Boy Scout program is that it encourages you to learn new things and take new adventures. Many of you have taken part in the Fall Merit Badge College at Hawkeye Community College. This has been a successful event for the last 19 years because so many Scouts like you have chosen to further your education and training at this event. In the spirit of this event, where many Scouts strive to be mentally awake in their quest for new learning opportunities, we are offering a $500 college scholarship to one young man who is registered with a Boy Scout unit in the River Valley District of the Winnebago Council. To be eligible, you must be a graduating High School senior who plans on entering a post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2015.
Enclosed you will find an application form and instructions on what you can do to apply for this scholarship. We are asking that all applications and materials be submitted by October 10 so that we have time to review the applications and choose our scholarship recipient. The winner of this scholarship will be announced at the November 1 Merit Badge College and will receive his award at the River Valley District Recognition Dinner in the Spring of 2015.
Applications will be judged by a panel of Scouters. The selection process will focus on honoring the Scout who best demonstrates perseverance and participation in the Boy Scout program.
