Scouting Open House Night on October 29, 2013
On October 29, 2013, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a nationwide Scouting Open House Night. On this evening, the LDS church will invite packs, troops, teams, and crews to join them as they open their doors to tell the story of Scouting in our local communities and invite youth to join this life-changing program.
Our local LDS units will have a special commemorative broadcast from Salt Lake City on Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
100 Years of Scouting and the LDS Church: Celebration with a Purpose
The Scouting Open House Night is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints becoming the BSA’s first official chartered organization. On October 29, LDS churches in every community across the nation will invite all chartered organizations to be part of the join Scouting event. The LDS Church has offered to open its doors for all units to hold a join Scouting event in their chapels/stake centers. This invitation is for units from all denominations– not just LDS units. That evening there will also be a national broadcast of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and the BSA. It will rebroadcast at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, if you prefer to hold your event that night. Youth and their families from across the council and/or district are invited to attend and join the adventure of Scouting.
This is a tremendous opportunity to share and grow Scouting.
Take advantage of this opportunity! Work with your local LDS Church leadership and invite all other chartered organizations, Scouting units, and community leaders to participate.

- Contact your LDS-BSA Relationships chairmen or other key LDS Church leadership in your area. The purpose of this conversation is to set up a time to meet to discuss how to make this event as successful as possible for each of the locations within your BSA council.
- Communicate the event plans with the entire professional staff and key council volunteers.
- Working through the established BSA district structure, ensure that each district is aware of which LDS chapels/stake centers will host the event.
- Ensure that each district is aware of the key LDS leadership they should be working with.
- Clearly communicate that all chartered organizations are invited to assist with the planning and are encouraged to participate.
- Develop a plan with the local LDS Church leadership on how to best promote this event to the community. Remember to include www.beascout.org on your promotional material.
- Attend the event.
- Remember that your main responsibility for this event is to provide youth the opportunity to join Scouting.
